‘Where and with whom’ to birth is one of many decisions most appropriately made by each parent themselves. My practice is centered around the belief that women and babies instinctively know how to birth and be born. |
I do not believe that there is a “right or wrong” way to birth, I work to support families in their own decisions. What I do believe is that every woman, baby and family should feel accurately informed, supported, respected and safe. For a growing number of families, that includes a planned out-of-hospital birth with a trained direct-entry midwife.
There are many sources to support the safety of this decision including the CPM statistics Project and the World Health Organization.
Direct-entry midwives in Texas are licensed and regulated. You can learn more about regulatory ethics, standards of care, and practice guidelines at www.mana.org or www.dshs.state.tx.us/midwife.
